As per 2022, some things I read in 2023, along with some brief opinions/recommendations.
All categorisations are approximate at best and will probably cause some kind of contention.
Fiction
- Garon Whited’s Nightlord series (4-7) - I’m starting to lose track a bit of all the parallel worlds, but it’s still nice to immerse myself in the fiction of smoothly-progressing well-funded projects(!)
- Charles Stross’s Season of Skulls
- Lois McMaster Bujold’s Shards of Honour and Barrayar (Vorkosigan Saga 1-2) - finally sat down to read these after so many recommendations, and it was so very worth it - lots of fun!
- Yoon Ha Lee’s Hexarchate Stories (The Machineries of Empire 3.5) - a collection of short stories set in the Hexarchate
- Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses (1-5) - so so much fun - more explicit than I first expected, but also really engaging and easy-to-read fantasy
Non-Fiction
- Christina Wodtke’s Radical Focus : Achieving Your Most Important Goals with Objectives and Key Results - I’m a big fan of OKRs, and this book does a fantastic job of laying out reasoning, considerations, and pitfalls - I’d strongly recommend it to anyone looking at OKRs or similar
- The Secret Barrister’s Nothing But The Truth: Dark Humour and Shocking Truths Learned from a Life in the Law
- TransFighters Oakland’s A Self-Defense Study Guide for Trans Women and Gender Non-Conforming / Nonbinary AMAB Folks - a friend of a friend was involved in the production, so I picked up a copy - interesting and insightful
